For over 30 years, the Orlando Sentinel Editorial Board has been highlighting Central Floridians that lead a lifestyle dedicated to creating a positive impact. Orlando Sentinel readers nominate candidates that they believe answer the call to serve others. All of us at Feeding Children Everywhere were ecstatic to hear that Dave Green, our very own CEO, had landed among the top 5 finalists for the prestigious honor of Central Floridian of the Year. That feeling was multiplied tenfold when Dave was announced as the recipient!
As Dave received praise from our team and from members of the community, his response was inspiring, “I’m humbled to be the one to accept the award on your behalf. This was really an award and recognition for all of us. It’s no secret that Feeding Children Everywhere would not be what it is today without our staff and interns, partner organizations, donors and of course, volunteers, the backbone of our organization. Thank you for everything you do to make Feeding Children Everywhere one of the most extraordinary organizations in Central Florida and beyond.”
When reminiscing over the highlights from the past year, Orlando Cares: Hope for Puerto Rico is at the forefront. Over the span of 19 days, 54,000 volunteers served with boldness, diligence and a sense of unity. A total of 4.4 million hope-filled, life-giving meals were packaged in response to the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria. Orlando Cares was just one instance when Dave’s innovation and ambitious outlook activated others to make a difference in their community. In 2017 alone, Feeding Children Everywhere hosted 482 projects with over 178,000 volunteers to provide 26,500,000 meals for children and families in need.
We are so proud of Dave and the spotlight shining on his hunger to empower others. To all of our supporters, this win is dedicated to you. Thank you for walking alongside us in our mission of activating people for a hunger-free world.
