Residents of the “Hungriest State in America” can now receive 40 tasty meals at no charge thanks to a first-of-its kind mobile app from Feeding Children Everywhere (FCE) designed with one audacious goal in mind: to end hunger in America.
More than 13 percent of U.S. households — approximately 43 million Americans, including 14.5 million children — struggle to put food on the table. A large percentage of these individuals live in Mississippi, America’s Hungriest State according to researchers.
For those who don’t know where their next meal is coming from, Fed 40 puts help within arm’s reach. It’s easy for families and individuals living in Mississippi to receive 40 servings of FCE’s Red Lentil Jambalaya at no charge using Fed 40:
STEP 2: Click “Get Started.” Provide some basic information and submit.
STEP 3: Look for a confirmation email. Meals typically arrive in about one business day. Reorder as needed!
There’s never a charge to use the app or request meals.
Fed 40 is part of an ongoing effort by FCE to get healthy meals to people in America’s food deserts, low-income communities that don’t have sufficient access to healthy and affordable food.
Shipping meals directly to families in need is ultimately a more dignified, efficient, cost-effective and environmentally responsible way to end hunger in the U.S., says Dave Green, CEO at FCE.
FCE launched Fed 40 as a pilot program this fall in Florida where its headquarters are located. But buzz continued to spread and in just a few short months, more states were added and FCE had shipped thousands of meals to hungry children and families. FCE hopes to cover every state in the U.S. by the end of 2018.
“Food deserts are the frontlines of the war on hunger in America,” Green explains. “The long-term plan is to bring urban farming to these areas, transforming food deserts into food producers.”
Here are two ways use Fed 40 to help create a hunger-free world:
- Download and share the app with people you know who need food assistance.
- Use the “Pay It Forward” option to buy 40 healthy meals for a family in need.
