Hunger Hero Steps Up Again for Orlando and Haiti

One of our all-time favorite Hunger Heroes is at it again. Dr. Cheryl Johnson, Teacher of the Year at Lockhart Middle School in Orlando, is partnering with local charities to provide free meals to families in the community.

Tomorrow, during Lockhart’s annual Bring Your Parents to School Day, three partnering agencies will participate in the food giveaway: Feeding Children Everywhere, Rose of Sharon Life Changing Ministries, and Second Harvest Food Bank. Local health care representatives will also be on hand to share valuable information regarding children’s healthcare.

Dr. Johnson explains: “Our ultimate goal is to have each child reach academic success, but it is vital to meet basic needs before advanced needs such as maturity and self-actualization can be satisfied.”

Last month, Dr. Johnson sent 25,000 relief meals to survivors of flooding in Louisiana. She also started a fundraiser for faculty and students to donate toward FCE’s effort to package 330,000 meals to help Haiti.

Speaking of helping Haiti, it’s not too late if you want to sign up to package meals this Saturday at our headquarters in Longwood!
