Feeding Children Everywhere (FCE) has mobilized over 600,000 volunteers to package over 92 million meals for hungry children and families around the world. We are excited to announce the opening of a new regional warehouse in Salt Lake City, Utah that will put us one step closer to seeing a hunger-free world.
This warehouse expansion is part of an ongoing mission to deliver healthy meals to people in America’s food deserts. These are low-income communities that don’t have sufficient access to fresh, healthy and affordable food.
The Salt Lake City warehouse will serve as a central hub of operations as the organization continues Hunger Projects in the western U.S. and launches its Fed 40 program in the region. As part of the expansion FCE recently received a $50,000 grant from the LDS church to launch Fed 40 in 7 new states including Utah, Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico and Wyoming.
“Regional warehouses are important because they increase efficiency in our fight against hunger. We source our ingredients from farms all across the nation and do Hunger Projects in every state so it makes more efficient to have strategically located regional warehouses,” said Dave Green, CEO.
The expansion reduces long-haul shipping which has several benefits. By decreasing shipping time and costs we are able to allocate more funds back into our programs to provide healthy meals for those who need it most. Additionally, we are reducing our carbon footprint which supports our commitment to sustainability.
Want to play your part? We are still looking for local partners to host hunger projects to package more healthy meals for hungry children and families in need.
